Free flight in Amazon - new record Print E-mail

ImageFollowing the tradition that Brazil is a world paradise for the free flight, in the Amazon with all its images of forest, plain and flooded areas also there are good places for practicing free flight.

In the city of Ouro Preto do Oeste in the state of Rondônia there is since the 1980s a ramp where free flight started and nowadays the paraglide is mostly practised. The ramp is located on the top of the mount in the Municipal Chico Mendes Park.

The “Associação de Voo Livre Asas da Amazônia” (AVLAA) (Amazon Free Flight Association) has more than 50 members that practice regularly paraglide and keep active their social activity.

Thanks to the evolution of technology the distance flights have became more and more often, and it started a race for breaking of records. In the year of 2007 the pilot Diógenes Tadeu, son of Celso Tadeu, flew the longest distance ever in Rondônia, he took of in Ouro Preto do Oeste and landed in the city of Ariquemes making a total of 132km in a dot line.

Image In 2010, the pilot Edgar Ribeiro flying with SOL Torck, took off from the east side of ramp in Mountain of Embratel in Ouro Preto do Oeste and flew 147km in a dot line into the city of Ariquemes, and became the new record holder of Paraglide Free Flight of the North Region of Brazil. His flight also gave him the leadership of the Xc Amazônia 2010.
